  1. To be honest differences aren't of any real importance. The religion is different but given the secular nature of British and European society this is less a problem than it was 50 years ago. Education policies are different too. Irish students pay no tution fees but Scottish students from poor income familes don't pay either. Scottish gaelic is different from Irish gaelic but both languages are spoken by only a small minority of the population in each country. Both nations speak English for the most part. Both nations also tend to vote for left or center left political parties. Conservatism has little appeal in either Ireland or Scotland.

    So I think you will find the differences between the nations are very subtle. You will probably find more differences between say England and Scotland or Ireland.

    For one, the religion. The main religion of Scotland is Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) whereas the main religion of Ireland is Roman Catholic (or Protestant in Northern Ireland).

    The languages are different, the education system is different, the laws are different...
