  1. Driven by the number of women working outside the home, somewhere in the late 1980s we crossed the line in the US where more meals are now eaten out of home than in home. That continues to creep upward. Food service efficiencies also continue to increase so that the cost gap between prepare-your-own and eat-someone-else's has been reduced.
