What are the space requirements needed for a train terminal???

this is in connection to my research project about a train terminal,i need to have all the space needed for me to configure the space to be included and its relation with each other..thanks!!!

Ummm, there are so many variables it is really impossible to answer in a way that would be helpful.

Is you terminal at the end of a single line? If that is the case you need a building about the size of a phone booth for a ticket agent to sit in.

If your terminal is at the end of mulitple lines where bus and metro service are to be coordinated with the train tracks you will need a minimum of 50 acres, for several tracks and platforms, baggage facitlities, ticket agents, bus terminals, etc.

Infrastructure like this is usually somethign that has evolved as the city grew around it.

Even the most basic passenger terminal requires at least 4 sets of tracks. Two terminal sidings and  two passing sidings. The configuration would look like this.

===<terminal>=== terminal tracks bracket the terminal

============== thru track

The terminal tracks are connected to the thru tracks with switches.

A freight terminal has a fiddle yard with many different configurations. sorry to be so vague but you could also try www.trains.com for more information.

As Rango states, there are incredible number of variables...

I'd be curious if you're looking for the space of: Freight or Passenger Terminal? IF passenger terminal: the BUILDING ITSELF ? or the space required for the Building AND the tracks and related services ?

I'd actually go seeking for answers at a model railroader forum... since they are duplicating or representing the railroads of the world and various eras
