  1. The sponsored links are just that, links to commercial websites that Yahoo! and Google earn some of their money from, and 'sponsored' by the companies owning them.


  2. Companies pay to have their sites come up when certain keywords are entered. So, for example, if someone is searching real estate listings on Google, 21 Century Homes might come up under sponsored links.
