What are the statistics of getting hit by a car while on a bike?

My mom is not letting me out of the house this summer to ride my bike or skateboard 'cause she thinks im going to crack my head open and get hit by a car.i just need the statistics and the place u got it from to prove to her its highly unlikely it would happen.

Statistics won't convince your mom. You should point out that all the other kids in your neighborhood are riding their bikes and they aren't getting mowed down by traffic. For your part, promise to wear a helmet each and every time you ride, obey traffic signs and lights, and to ride predictably.

I'm sorry I don't have a link for you, but if you could find car accident statistics, you can start harping on her about how dangerous it is to drive a car and how she should just stay home, take the bus or walk.

If you stop at stop signs and red lights and wear a helmet, the chances are much less. Ride safely. I do, and I have never gotten hit and I have been riding to school every day for 10 years, and I'm 13. Those are my statistics.

This is what i don't get. When your mom is driving you, she is putting other people on bikes at risk. She has to think of others, and not letting you out to ride your bike is not considerate of others at all. Instead of having to make her drive you everywhere you could ride by yourself or with friends and have a much better time, and get, exercise, save her gas money, and help the Earth-- she is inflicting this on herself.

Simply put, it is outrageous that she won't let you out. Tell her what I said and she will understand why you won't stand for her terms. Good luck, and I hope you will be riding in freedom in no time at all.

Always wear a helmet and be  aware of your surrondings. Your Mom should just put you in a bubble in the basement where you will never get hurt. She should let you live your life. I have been hit by cars a few times and back in the day nobody wore helmets. Your Mom is paranoid. Everyone will get hurt or die someday so tell her to chill.

My mom is the exact same way. :[ She's very against me getting a bike, but my dad is thankfully is a little more conservative and thinks that everybody should ride a bike if they want. XD
