The Defensive Driving process can vary depending on your state. In Texas, the course takes 6 hours and includes a final exam. You get three shots to pass the final. You'll receive a certificate in the mail which you'll take to the court. The court will probably also request a copy of your five year driving record. Most courses online are pretty easy. The short answer to this is: Be hyper-aware of your surroundings, such as, always anticipate on something happening. When approaching open intersections, slow down. When going thru an intersection where there are stop signs in the other direction, be prepared to stop if necessary. At intersections with traffic lights, always assume someone could run a red light. Allow plenty of distance for braking. Be considerate of others.
