  2. use the distributive property on each of the parenthesis.... so

    16= 3x-3-x+7 ( you change the sign because you multiply by a negative )

    combine like terms

    16= 2x+4

    Subtract 4 from each side

    12=2x

    Divide each die by 2

    6=X

  3. Distribute the 3 and the -1 on the right hand side to get

    16 = 3x - x + 7 - 3

    16 = 2x + 4

    12 = 2x

    6 = x
