Me and my wife want to adopt a girl and a boy (and more later in the future). We make a combined household income of 230,000 yearly and live in Arkansas. I've always admired their culture and land; would like to adopt babies in need

  1. check out some vietnamese adoption blogs. If you both are seriously ready to find the child that grew in your heart then these blogs ar the best way to find out "real" info from families who have been there done that . they have all the trustworthy agencies to contact & they can tell you what real expectations you will face, also realistic timelines. heartfelt stories & some controversial subect matter  that may help you in your journey. I commend you both on adoption. I have a 16 month old biological daughter & look forward to someday adopting .

  2. all i can say being a foster parent is why not look into adopting rite here in the USA theres millions of lovely children rite here in your own beautiful USA needing loving homes and income level does not play a major role~

  3. Here is a page with some links on the Viet Nam process - http://www.informedadoptions.com/index.p...

I would start with researching agencies to make sure you find an ethical one here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RateYourVi... and talking to adult adoptees from Vietnam on a group such as this one - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Internatio...

Talk about whether you are open to adopting an older child, special needs child, toddler, etc. Study Vietnamese culture, take some language classes if you can find them, seek out the Vietnamese community in your area, learn and try to make some friends.

Then you will need a liscensed social worker in your area to complete a homestudy for you. This will cost roughly $1000-3000 depending on your area. Your SW will need to do home visits, interview you and get some information such as letters of employment, criminal background checks, health exams, etc.

Next you will need to send the homestudy along with an application, a few other papers, and a fee to the Dept of Homeland Security to get an I-171h, which is basically permission to have your child come to america to be adopted.

Many of the home study papers, and the I-171h will go into your dossier, which is the group of papers you send to Viet Nam in order to be referred a child. After this is sent, you will wait until a child is referred to you, unless you adopt a waiting child from a photolist (please research photolistings, as this is controversial and many feel it is akin to baby shopping).

Once you have your referral you will wait for your agency to tell you that it is okay for you to travel to Vietnam, where you will receive your child in what is called a G&R, or Giving and Receiving ceremony.

I have not personally adopted from Vietnam, so I recommend you look at the links on the site I pasted above and join the IAT group to talk to adult Vietnamese adoptees to learn everything you can before you adopt.

Another group to join to talk to people adopting from Viet Nam is - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/a-parents-...
