  1. You should just call the force you're interested in and they will be able to steer you in the right direction.  As a matter of fact, I do believe they are required by law to provide any info you need on employment.  Now, just sit back and wait for the inevitable "start eating a dozen donuts a day" jokes your question is going to bring in.

  2. There are many opportunities for qualified individuals looking for police officer jobs. The steps to become a police officer vary a bit depending on the department. The time it takes also varies. Visit the websites of the police departments that you are interested in. You will usually find detailed information about the requirements, how to apply, and about the hiring process. If you have questions that a department's website does not answer, simply call the department. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information about becoming a police officer.

  3. Check with the various departments to see what their minimum requirements are... if you meet those minimum requirements (education, age, etc....), then you put in your application and .....

    1. Take/pass the written exam and oral boards

    2. Take/pass the physical agility test

    3. Take/pass the psychological exam

    4. Successfully pass the background investigation

    5. Take/pass the pre-poly/poygraph exam

    6. Take/pass the medical exam

    7. Enter/complete the academy - typically, 6 months.

Once you graduate, you're assigned to field training for a while with an FTO (field training officer); once you complete that, you're now fully certified for "basic patrol."

The entire process from initial application to academy graduation may take up to 12-18 months.

    Calif Deputy

  4. You have to narrow it down to what dept and what city. If you go to small one as long as your breathing they will take you. Major city you have tons of steps and each one awaits you while it's burning and fuel is being thrown onto it.
