What are the steps to getting reimbursed by your health insurance?

my son has autism i send him to an aba based school in texas,his tuition is 1500.00 a month in texas they passed hb1919 to get insurance to cover most services you pay out of pocket,but how do i get started anyone going through the same thing?please help my boy is 5 getting close to deadline.

any and all info would be great.

  1. If it's HB, it's not law yet.  Are YOU in Texas?  If not, then TX law doesn't apply to YOUR health insurance policy.  If it becomes law, you submit the claim, and if it gets denied, appeal it, and if it gets denied again, submit the documentation and the correspondence to the state insurance commissioner.


  2. Your insurance will not cover tuition... Only health related expenses. Custodial care, room & board, etc aren't usually covered. I have read, however, the school district you live in should assist with tuition due to them not being able to provide a safe, & effective learning enviornment.

  3. Call the local Autism office or go to autism.com and ask the question, if you have private insurance contact them for a form and they will instruct you, copy all your receipts and get the paperwork in asap.

  5. you may have to take them to court, then after words, you may have to find another insurance company :)
