What are the steps to having a buddy on Blackberry messenger?

Blackberry messenger allows IM between Blackberry users.  

To add a contact to the BlackBerry Messenger Contacts list, complete the following:

On the BlackBerry smartphone, open BlackBerry Messenger.

Display the menu and click Add a Contact. The Select Address screen appears.

Add a contact from your address book by clicking the contact name. Or, add a new contact by selecting Use Once, entering the contact email address and clicking the trackwheel. The contact email address is added.

Display the menu and select Request Email<user_name>. The Add a Message screen appears.

Click OK. The Add a Message is sent to the contact. You may customize this invitation before sending it. The contact is added to your contact list once the invitation is accepted.

Additional Info

A contact can be requested by an email message or by a personal identification number (PIN) number with the use once option.  When highlighting use once at the top of the address list as detailed in step 2, displaying the menu and select Request by Email or Request by PIN.
