  1. Never painted before?

    Okay, some basic supplies:

Old sheets or plastic sheeting (lowes, home depot, paint stores, take your pick for plastic sheeting).

2 Roller handles and 4 covers

    Paint tray

    2 - 2" brushes (disposable work fine)

    blue painters tape

    1 gallon of primer

1 gallon of paint (pick a color and have it mixed at a store)

    2 paint sticks

Start by making certain that there is nothing within 3 feet of your wall. Make certain that the wall is clean and has no holes in it. If it has holes go to the store and get some putty to fill them in. Then spread your plastic or old ratty sheets on the floor under the wall to be painted. Tape the plastic/sheet in place with the blue painters tape. Make certain that your floor is protected but that the wall is not covered. Remember, any space near your wall not covered WILL get paint on it, so be thorough.

Tape the edges of your walls (the sides you DON'T want to paint) including the ceiling. This will help with the Ooops marks that will inevitably occur.

Using a roller prime the wall, then using the brush prime the areas you couldn't get to with the roller.

6-10 hours later, you can paint the first top coat. When it dries you can decide if you need a second coat.

Walls that have not been painted in over 5 years tend to absorb paint. The longer between paintings the worse the absorption rate is, which is why I recommend a 1 gallon can. A 1 gallon can is supposed to be able to handle 1 room. I went through 2 cans just painting a small hallway 10 feet long by 4 feet wide and its not done yet!

  2. Attach drywall to studs with drywall screws.

Mud and tape seams between drywall sheets; mud drywall screws. (follow instructions with mud)

Apply primer to wall until the mud areas are no longer visible.

Apply paint over primer once dried.

If painting a pre-existing wall, apply primer before paint if the colour you will be applying is lighter than the colour already on the wall.

  3.     clean the wall first , then make sure you stir the paint for at least five (5) minutes do the edges first the the center be careful to remember to put don some drop clothes. wearing a old hat will help keep it out of your hair.
