Not a zoo, or place available to the public, or "exotic pet breeder", but a facility dedicated to breeding one or a few endangered animals?

  1. you have a couple hurdles to overcome.

First, you need the space to do it in a place which has a suitable climate.  Getting that space almost certainly means getting a load of cash.  If you have the cash, easy.  If not, you have to find the cash.  Go the non-profit route and beg for money or find a way to make a profit.Since you dont want it open to the public, your choices regarding making money are going to be limited.  In any event, you are going to need to incorporate to get the money dedicated to the animals.

Since we are on the topic of money, remember you are giong to need a continuing souce of money to continue your project.

Next you will need to overcome regulatory hurdles.  Get a lawyer who specializes in exotic animals, if you can, because you are walking onto a landmine of regulations that can put you behind bars. You need someone who at least knows what you have to avoid.

Hire your staff.  Depending on how large your operation is, you may have only a part time vet and yourself, or you may need several people.  Since a lot of animals are fuzzy and cute, you can probably get lots of volunteers.  If you do, you will almost certainly need a full time administrator to watch over the volunteers.

You are also going to need a thick hide.  If you do this and you are successful, you will certainly tick off one or more animal rights groups.  You may be a hero to others, but these groups do far more damage to their enemies than aid to their heros.  Expect pickets, hate mail, editorials in local papers, etc.  that describes what a villian you are.  That is when things are going fine.  Make a mistake some time, over feeding or underfeeding, or getting the wrong feed or any of a million other mistakes which humans make, and you can expect visits from animal welfare agencies who will make you out to be a criminal and try to take posession of your animals and euthanize them.

One suggestion I would make is to find a farm animal not so different from the one you plan to breed and get a little experience with that. You will get into much less trouble, plus people will be more willing to support your project if they have reason to believe you can be successful.

  2. idk but GO YOU!! HELP SAVE THE ANIMALS!! YOUR MY HERO!! im only 15 but i hope to do something similar one day! thank you so much from me AND the animals for even trying!

  3. No one breeds endangered species to give to people as pets..this is illegal. And how is keeping exotic animals as pets helping to replenish their population in the wild.   If you are interested in this type of career..you would work for a zoo where the animals are released back into the wild or with a wildlife group that works to save endangered species.   If you truly love and want to help protect animals and save them in the wild..breeding them as pets is no way to do it.

  4. well. maybe you could ask a vet person or farmer or breeder for help or find a brocher or look it up :)
