What are the stereotypes of life in London, south of the river, and what about north of the river?

What usually comes to people's minds when they think of life living north of the Thames, as well as what are the stereotypes of life south of the river.

I think of it as a bit of a wilderness to be honest, it's not as comprehensively served by the tube as north of the river.  

I'm one of those people who think there is nothing beyond the tube & if it isn't served by the tube it probably doesn't really exist which would cover large tracts of south London and most of the UK : )

I don't really have any stereotypes about South & North but I do find depending on where you settle when you first move to London that's where you stay.  From my own experience, I know labelling an area as this or that is a mistake, it makes people nervous & apprehensive.  I have a friend living in south London, within 15 minutes bus ride of Brixton Underground Station, I have no problem visiting her or wandering around her local area.  I've also been into some really nice areas like Brockley & Dulwich.  I've even been as far south as Croydon in the far distant past.

I think it's a myth that north or south is wealthier, there are pockets of wealth & poverty cheek by jowl, demand for properties is sometimes driven by specific groups with certain needs such as the young professionals moving into Camberwell for easy access to the Docklands.

"Sarf" London is usually seen as the poorer side whereas North London tends to be more expensive, that is changing though, South West London is very posh but South East London ie: Catford, Deptford et al are not the best areas

it's more complicated than that I think. There's also the whole west/east thing as  along with north/south.

Lived in east london for 3 years and hardly ever went south of the river. Theres nice and dodgy parts on both sides but north is better - has more stuff going on.
