  1. What a great question!  I wonder what it means?

  2. Depends on what your problems are.

  3. 1.  Ignore the small infractions and point out the students that are performing the task correctly. (point out how you like how.______ has their desk cleaned off and is ready to work) Be sure to mention students by name.

    2.  If a student is getting frustrated, give them a place to cool down and then give them some one on one.

    3.  Personally, i think if you spend the first few weeks of school working out routines, rules and procedures, learning about each other, connecting with each other (hobbies, interests, family stuff) The kids will know the expectations and are more than likely to follow them.

(They don't care how much you know, until they know you care about them!)

    4.  Bring student interest in to the lesson design.  If you have students who show animals, bring examples of how math, language arts, reading can be relevant to student interest.(MAKE LEARNING RELEVANT TO THE STUDENTS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE)

    5.  Make the classroom about the students.  When you are doing sentence correction activities, make the sentences about different students.  (they will love the attention) especially if the sentences are positive and reflect that you know them.  If you choose a book to read to them, maybe say you remembered someone liked horses

Prasie often!!  You can praise for success, but then turn around and praise for effort.  (If you worked really hard on this, raise your hand.  THanks I appreciate you!! )  Don't ignore failure, but downsize it. Don't point failure out in front of the class, but offer extra help without their being an audience.

I always tell my students that it is ok to make mistakes as long as we learn from them.

    Hope this helps.
