  1. I will try to just hit some highlights.  Below is a link to the entire USAV DCR book.

There are 6 players on a side.  3 in the front row and 3 in the back row.

There are only 3 hits allowed on a side, with the block not counting as a hit.

To simplify, the positions are broken down as hitters, setters and defense.  There are many variations of each of these positions.

One of the defensive positions is called the Libero.  They wear different colored shirts from the rest of the team.  They also have some rules designed for them.  (That is why they wear the different shirt.)

In volleyball, people change from offense to defense to offense on every play.

Most sets of rules use rally scoring.  That is a point on every serve, not just when the team serves.  Most rules have the teams playing to 25 points in the first games and to 15 points in a deciding game if needed.

I hope this is enough of the basics.

  2. That would be a very long answer - my guess is you have a report due? For a better answer - do you mean indoor or beach? The best way to find the rules (there's lots) is to go to the USAV web site and look them up.... link below...

  3. The top contributor summed up the basics, but remember too, no illegal equipment, like metel clips in your hair, jewelry, and nothing dangling from your scrunchies.
