Most beef in Kenya is fresh due to the high rate of consumption. most meat on the shelves or in the butcher shops are no more than 2 days old. in the cities supply of meat is centralized to Dagoretti slaughter houses(recently closed for failing to adhere to safety, environmental regulations). as you go further out into the country there is a slaughter house in every city/town. in some places restaurants and Butchers kill their meat on site or get it from private vendors who follow strict government regulation.

    Frozen meat is hard to come by because of the unreliability of the power supply to power the freezers.
