I have a labtop issued by my organization, but I didnt make an entry of it at immigration before travelling to USA. But I have a letter(Like an agreement for it) given by my company at the time of its issue. I have a plan to buy one in US. Does the document I have can avoid the risk of being taxed on the labtop I have taken from home country?

  1. Customs officials (to my knowledge in Blr) DO NOT accept any letter or acknowledgement given by companies or corporates in such cases. Unless, you have got a customs registration certificate for your asset, it is not possible to prove to them that it is company registered or a bonafide commodity to which tax is already paid. If u are buying another one, u might end up paying 33% tax for any one of them which is more costlier (Indian customs have seem to have a little soft-corner for laptops even if it costs more than 25K. So, one laptop can be taken in custom-free. But tax is mandatory for the other one)
