  1. This can only be properly diagnosed by a blood test.

  2. gout is caused by a build up of uric acid crystals in the joints, the result is very painful very swollen very red joints, so if your toe isn't red and swollen and painful, it isn't gout.

  3. Get it checked out-  but too much protein in your diet can be a cause of gout-  Gout is extremely painful, comes on quickly and can be controlled easily.  Black cherries are very good for controlling gout.  Most importantly you need a balanced diet!!

  4. if you have gout, then the joint on your big toe starts going red and the pain gets worse for about 3 days till it reaches its peak, even the weight of bed clothes on it is too much, then starts to subside, it is caused by too much uric acid in your blood, which causes crystals which gather around the joint, eating tomatoes, offal, pork and drinking red wine or brandy can cause excess uric acid

  5. Does it feel so painful that you would think it was broken?

My arthritis turned out to be gout and was only diagnosed when I went to a GP on holiday! He took one look and said "That's gout go and see my nurse and get a blood test"

    It was positive.

    I was astounded!

He gave me a prescription for Allopurinol and I've taken it ever since.

I'm teetotal and steer clear of purines

It doesn't necessarily come from your diet-your body is producing the uric acid itself.

  6. Hi yes it does sound like you may have gout because it is inflammation of the bones and joints it is more internal so you wont see so much swelling , gout can go 2 ways it can dry out the natural lubrication of joints therefore the bones grind together causing pain and it can also be internal swelling of joints meaning that there is not en ought room to move, it has no were to swell out to because it is inside not outside the joint so pressure builds up you get throbbing pain and aches that's why it will feel different to other arthritic joints and also joints like toes, ankles and knees take to vibration of the rest of your body moving causing bad pain ,there is medication available in pharmacy called glucosaman sulphate and also cod liver oil is good but if it continues as your g.p there is a good drug called allpurinol for gout.

hope this is not too boring and of some use.
