  2. Most common symptoms of both types of diabetes are...

    Constant hunger

    Headaches

    Nausea or vomiting

    Unexplained weight loss OR gain

    Irritability

    Frequent boils

    Sweet smelling urine

  3. Early sign & symptoms of uncontrolled diabetes include frequent thirst, frequent urination, chronic fatigue, increased blood glucose levels (hyperclycemia), acetone or fruity smelling breath, rapid breathing (kussmaul respirations), and sugar in the urine.

These signs are a result of the bodies inability to absorb glucose into the cells.  In responce, the body burns fat and protein instead.  As sugar levels continue to rise in the blood it will eventually spill over into the urine.

A simple finger stick and urine dip stick test performed by your physician can provide clues to weather a person is in stages of diabetes.  Depending on thoise test results, additional tests like glucose tollerance (GTT), fasting glucose, HbA1C may be needed.

Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to very serious complications such as blindness, limb amputation, kidney failure, metabolic acidosis, seizures, and death.  With new treatments and medical doctors that specailize in treating patients with diabetes, many diabetics are leading very healthy and active lifestyles.  The key is to identify the disease early and get the correct care.
