  1. Looking for Alibrandi looks at Cultural differences in Australia. Jose's Italian heritage makes it difficult for her due to her families meddling. There is the issue of family and social pressures, suicide. Class and social status division plays a huge role as Jose tries to decide who is more acceptable to date, a guy from a public school, and a guy from a private school. Also Jose although attending a private school is on a scholarship and struggles with people not being accepted.
