  1. Depends on what type of vegetarian you are I forgot the name but there is a type where you can eat fish but not meat.

  2. Congrats on going vegetarian. That's a choice you won't regret. :-)

    Vegetarians do NOT eat:

    -Fish / Seafood

-Meat / flesh of ANY animal

-Slaughter by-products (such as gelatine, cochineal)

Vegetarians can drink soy milk, it's completely plant based. And vegetarians can eat soy mince too (it's delicious, you gotta try it!).

Tip- do a little research on veggie nutrition on the internet. Here's a useful guide to going vegetarian (it's very easy to follow):

    http://www.vegsoc.org/info/goingveg.html

Ok that's about it.. Enjoy being meat free! :D

  3. Vegetarians just don't eat meats including fish!  Some Vegetarians give up gelatin and products that come from animals..  Soy milk is Vegetarian and Vegan too!  Coconut milk tastes much better!  see my  soy burger recipe in my blog  ca.360.yahoo.com/ddherbals. Most Vegetarians just give up meat and fish!  Fake ones eat fish!  Vegans give up alot more than vegetarians!

  4. Honestly, I'm not sure if fish is out of the question. Catholics don't eat meat on Friday, but for them, fish is ok. I think it depends how vegetarian you wanna go. Like, some won't eat eggs, others will. I think if you make a choice like that, go into it in the way it suits you, and take it from there. Also, why do you want to be a vegetarian? You might want to consider why before you do anything you might later consider drastic.

  5. soy is fine! as long as the meat isn't REAL meat, go for it. fish is a no. unless you want to go pescetarian. which is you eat fish and dairy and everything BUT meat. You could try that?!

  6. Soy milk and veggieburgers/veggieweiners (made from soy) are perfectly vegetarian. Soy is a bean.

Lacto-ovo vegetarians continue to eat eggs/dairy and milk. Vegans give up anything that comes from animals.

You don't *have* to be vegetarian, just for the label. Any reduction in the amount of meat you eat benefits animals and the environment. But to actually be vegetarian, no, there's no fish.

Personally, and as an aside to the other readers of V&V, I think encouraging people just to be flexitarians or reduce their meat consumption may be better in the long run than trying to convince them to go all the way to vegetarianism. It's easier for people to cut down on the meat they eat without giving it up entirely, and means they don't need to be as careful as we tend to be about ingredients and eating out.

  7. Um, meat?

Okay, give me thumbs down, but I couldn't resist.

  8. Here is a small list of foods that vegetarians eat.

The true definition of the word would may help make things clearer. The only definitions worth repeating are from the founders of the words.

    vegetarian - http://www.vegsoc.org/info/whatis.html

    vegan - http://www.vegansociety.com/newsroom/ind...

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

    http://www.veganhealth.org/sh

    http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

It may help you if you see proof that vegetarians have the same potential as anyone else.

If you need meat or dairy during any stage of your life or to live any certain lifestyle, why does the American Dietetic Association say otherwise?

  9. Long list: :)

Gelatin (you'll find this in marshmallows, gummy bears, jello, some gum, certain candies, etc)

Caesar dressing, Worchestshire sauce, some steak sauces (there's generally anchovies in those)

    Obviously, meat, fish, etc.

It's not a loss and every vegetarian saves 100 animals' lives per year! :)

  10. Other people... I'm pretty sure that would make you NOT a vegetarian.

Seriously though - it all depends on your reasons for wanting to be a vegetarian.  Many vegetarians do eat fish - and eggs, which are really unborn animals.  Being a vegetarian is something intensely personal: I know some who call themselves vegetarians who only avoid red meat.  Others won't eat anything with a meat product of any sort in it, even some kinds of crackers (those are usually the ones who feel that it's cruel to kill animals), and yet others are vegans - no eggs, no dairy.

Make your decision of what to/not to eat based on what YOU want to do, not what others have done.

  11. Foods that contain slaughtered animals or slaughter by/animal products which include sea animals (such as fish, clams, shrimp, etc), chickens, turkeys, cows, bugs, geletin, casien, etc.

Yes you can drink soy milk and eat soy meat, look at the ingredents of foods, eat a varitey of foods, cook meals for yourself,  learn about veg nutriotion.

  12. Some vegetarians eat poultry, and some eat fish/seafood. I'm a vegetarian but I eat fish because it's a really good source of protein. You can pretty much do whatever you want, but I know you're not supposed to eat red meats. Good job for being a veggie! lol

  13. you can drink soy milk! or regular milk since you are only vegetarian.

gelatin is made from crushed up animal bones in slaughter houses so most vegetarians stay clear of that too (which is used in gummy type things, like jello, gummy bears, marshmellows, poptart frosting, yogurt,  glazes & just recently i read that OREOS contain them! i didnt know about that so check that if you are staying away from gelatin)

some things like pancakes, cake mixes, ALL HOSTESS snacks, have beef fat.

also just because it says "organic" doesnt mean its vegetarian, it confuses me sometimes

-also NO you can not eat fish, even though some 'vegetarians' do. those are not true vegetarians! fish have feelings too!

  14. Vegetarians don't eat meat or slaughter byproducts- lard, gelatin, animal fats/stocks, etc.

  15. No meat. so no chicken, beef, pork, fish, etc etc.

it's VEGANS who don't eat any animal by-product like milk, eggs, cheese, etc, etc. If you want more information go to this web page. it'll tell you all about what you need to do.

and here's a web page that gives recipes for veg cooking

also you can go to peta.org to learn all about being a vegetarian and products that are cruelty free. and products that are fake that can replace the real thing. like tofu.

  16. No animal flesh and no slaughter by products.  You can however eat eggs and dairy if you choose.
