  1. If you have an accident -- if the cars are drivable and on a busy road or blocking traffic - the police department will want you to move the cars to out of traffic. If you have a camera or camera phone - it's ok to take photos of the scene before moving the cars.

    Call the police.

Regardless of fault -- check on the other driver/occupants. It is ok to do that. And if you are at fault - checking on the other person to make sure they are ok can go a long way toward preventing that person from running to a lawyer and racking up a bunch of medical bills.

Don't show your @ss. No matter what happened - be civil. Again - all cussing and showing your @ss does is cause hard feelings between you and the other driver. If you are at fault for the accident -- those hard feelings can motivate a person to run up unnecessary medical bills and file an inflated injury claim.

I have actually had people tell me that they were not going to go to the hospital but the other guy was such a jerk ....

All showing your f***y does is cause hard feelings. Those hard feelings just make it that much harder for me to keep control of the claim and just encourage the person to inflate their claim.

If you are at fault - report the claim to your insurance company the  next business day. Be sure to provide contact information for you and the other driver.

When the adjuster calls you to ask about the accident -- take the call unless you have a very good reason not to. And if I leave a message, call me back. I am calling you for a reason. If you are my policy holder and you are at fault for an accident --it is very important that I speak w/ you to confirm what happened (even though you told your agent and the claim report center).

    Cooperate in the claim investigation.

  2. Are you expecting to cause an accident?  Perhaps you should not drive.  Should you get into an accident, call the local police department.  If it is an accident with injuries, call 911.  Exchange insurance information.  Do not admit fault.

  3. Check for injuries, call 911, remain calm, do not discuss fault, exchange driver and insurance information, collect vehicle description including license plate numbers, seek witnesses names and contact information. Take pictures (carry a disposable camera if you don't have a camera phone or digital). Call your insurance.
