A bed ,elevator ,a medium sized bathroom,a computer at some 5 star hotels,a medium sized tv ,2 tables,large room for when family reunions occur,fruit basket,or cookie basket,room service,gift shop whoa that's all i can type now i g2g 2 school.

i want to be able to bring my dog with me. i want to be able to smoke in my room. i want good food, real ale. i like nice surroundings, not city centres.

how clean is it...

i was recently at disney world in orlando florida and stayed at one of their hotels and because it was from this huge company being disney, i guess i expected more than what was provided... i walked around the room in socks at night, as i do at home and my socks were black on the bottom very quickly...

other things important to me...

easy to find parking without a very long walk

comfortable bed (VERY IMPORTANT)

location

polite and capable staff

I look for cleanliness really, that is the most important thing for me.  As long as there is a bed and a bathroom, I'm happy.

it is nice to have pleasant staff and be in the middle of local life, not a big modern home from home.

The last time I stayed at a hotel was in Liverpool, it was an old building which wasnt too bad but they hadnt updated the interior, it looked old, smelt old, furnishings were old, it just didnt feel very welcoming as for cleanliness it was OK, they said reception was 24 hour but i couldnt see anyone at around 1am, maybe they were asleep out back.

If you like nice things and would like to stay in a nice hotel give it all the things you know  your guests will like, visit some hotels yourself that have a good rating and get some ideas from there.

My big thing is a comprehensive website that is regularly updated, and then prompt replies to my email inquiries.

I need to see a few photos of rooms, a full list of facilities, maybe a sample menu if there is a restaraunt.  A clear map showing where the hotel is, also showing where the nearest tube/underground station is.

Also very important, I want to see the room rates clearly stated. (it doesnt matter if there are discounts or specials also available)

If I cannot see any of these I will not even consider the hotel.

After I go to website, then I compare price, location, facilities.

Once I stay at a hotel, bad customer service will make me never come back...good customer service will make me recommend it to my friends.

But honestly, these days, people like to be able to research online.
