  1. since you are the one buying the horse you should know what to get but i will be nice and give you a list

you wont need the same saddle and stuff but here it is anyway

the only thing on this list that i would not get it the fly mask and fly blanket with the mask if a fly gets stuff under there it can cause a horse to go blind and just use fly spray instead of  a blanket

also if you are not going to board your horse you will need watter bucket feed bucket ect.

  2. I can't tell you a list because it goes on and on and on and on.....I can tell you though the grooming box will cost $100 alone.....the vet...oh boy you never know the thing is your horse may have something wrong with it and you don't realize it early say goodbye to that new car you wanted...my point is I can't tell you because there really is no answer!

  3. Feeding your horse will obviously vary depending on where you live.  Hay is not cheap.  But it is more expensive in different areas.  Hay for a month would probably cost from between $100-$300.  Grooming is free if you have the combs and brushes.  If you don't you'd probably be spending about $20-$40 getting the right things that you need.  Vet bills vary depending on what your horse needs.  It's usually around $150 and they come twice a year.  You would probably need a farrier to come every 6-8 weeks to change your horses shoes.  That will cost you too.  I'm not exactly sure on the amount.  Even if you have a place to keep your horse for free it's still going to be expensive.  Good luck!

  4. There are a lot of things you need to take care of a horse. For an easy keeper, it costs over $150 a month to take care of the horse, but that's in my local area, and farrier and vet bills here are relatively low.. but this is not counting putting shoes on a horse, feeding it hay year-round, or board, because my horses go barefoot, and we have lush grass so they don't need much hay or grain, and I work at the farm I board at, so there's no boarding fee. Don't forget to account for accidents.. and horses are accident-prone, so don't think "well my horse won't hurt herself". HAH ! Yeah, okay.

Another thing -- do you know much about TWHs ? They require special hoof care, and while they're great horses, they're gaited, and they cost a LOT, if you get a good one. Do you know that you need a round-skirted saddle to keep out of the way of the horse's hips when s/he gaits ? Do you understand that a TWH bobs his head when he moves ? Do you understand that TWHs don't trot, but rather do a running walk ? I work with TWHs. There is a lot that you need to know.

Please, do research. Lease a horse. Don't buy one right off the bat. Try sponsoring a horse at a rescue to find out how much per month it costs to keep a horse -- and this way you don't have a horse to rehome if you can't keep him.

Horses are great animals, but they cost A LOT.

Do you know that mares get cranky during their heat, and are often not usable during those times ? Do you know that stallions and geldings need sheath cleanings at least annually ? What about stone bruises ? Colic ? Sand colic ? Flies ? Moon blindness ? Navicular disease ? HYPP ? Founder ?

Like I said; research. Don't buy a horse -- they're hard to sell if you need to get rid of them, and once you have it, you can't stop taking care of it. They eat a LOT and they need a lot of care. Are you prepared to drive to the barn every morning and evening to muck stalls and feed ?

I've never owned my own horse, but I work with them. I know that I can't afford one, but I'm content that I get to ride and exercise horses. Try and get into a good situation where you can ride for free, or take care of one for free. There are a lot of people looking for farm help out there. Good luck.

  5. I own 2 horse at the moment.  The main costs are: stabbing, vet bills, lessons, farrier and horse supplies. If you are boarding indoors it will cost roughly around 500-700 dollars per month but if you are okay with outdoor board you should be able to get the cost down to 200-400. Vet bills can be a range of prices, anywhere from 50-100 dollars a month same with farrier but every 6 weeks. You can plan for reocurring vet bills such as deworming but should also plan for extras.  For example when your horse cuts himself and you need the service of a vet.  If you are taking lessons the cost will depend on your coach, group lessons on average cost $25-45 each. Horse supplies consist of brushes, blankets, ointments, boots, helmets, coolers, saddle pads, saddles, bridles etc. you would probly spend $75-100 a month.  The total for these bills may surprise you but owning a horse is a cash draining experience.

  6. well u well need grain, hay, supplements, Bug spray, salt block          ( helps prevent colic), trough for watter. Grooming- curry comb, soft brush, hoff pick, manny other brushes. lots of other stuff

  7. omg you have got to be kidding me! if u dont know how to take care of a horse and u want to buy one YOU WILL just completly mess up what ever horse u buy...it takes YEARS of experience and not just getting answers from ppl online.go take riding lessons and intern at some barns b4 u EVEN CONSIDER a huge responsibility like that...
