I bought this serger but misplaced my manual somewhere in my house. Can someone please tell me what tensions I need to use with which color threads for my serger to make a rolled hem? I'm making a school bag for my daughter and want to add a tutu on the bottom so it looks like a ballet dress. If not, can you tell me if there is a free on-line manual/site for Singer that I can use? I couldn't find one.

  1. If the tutu id tulle/net, don't bother.  It's more bother than it's worth, and tulle doesn't fray.

Otherwise, use any colour you like!  Make it a nice contrast...  Use glossy floss for a bold effect!  You'll need the chosen colour in the UPPER LOOPER, and the background colour in the needle and LOWER LOOPER.

You need to either switch out the stitch finger or change the stitch plate and foot to those for rolled hems (I don't know this machine, so don't know which you need to do), then alter your cutting width to what works best for your fabric.  Turn the stitch length down to 1-1.5 or so, and alter the thread tension:

You will only need the Right Needle, so remove the left one.  Tighten the thread tension on this one a little...

Slacken off the UPPER LOOPER tension a little so that the thread wraps round, forming the curl...

Tighten the LOWER LOOPER tension until you cannot see it in the stitch...  Maybe all the way up to 8 or 9!

You WILL need to experiment: every fabric and every thread combination, and every machine likes to do it a little differently!

Do replace that manual if you cannot find it.  It's too useful not to have available for this exercise...  Any Singer dealer will order it for you, or you can get one directly from Singer.
