  1. Most people believe that art really doesn't have a purpose of it's own, and all judgments concerning art are substantial. Of course, my opinion is that art does have a purpose, and it has been discussed in the past through a philosophy that described art's purpose through he concept of beauty. This describes how people can determine beautiful views from the object or theme that they are able to see regardless of how many views that object could have. For example, artists could see beauty in a simple, dead tree branch, whereas most people would not be able to see that. The concept of beauty is shown through this as artists see beauty all around them and they have the ability to create artwork of all of these beautiful surroundings that they see. Therefore, opinions about art do not need to be substantial as most people believe. I believe that the purpose of art is to demonstrate the beauty that the artist sees in the world.

Some other views of the purpose of art include:

-Basic human instinct for harmony, balance, rhythm.

    -Experience of the mysterious.

    -Expression of the imagination.

    -Universal communication.

    -Ritualistic and symbolic functions.

    -Communication.

    -Art as Entertainment.

-The Avante-Garde. Art for political change.

-Art for psychological and healing purposes.

-Art for social inquiry, subversion and/or anarchy.

    -Art for propaganda, or commercialism.
