More people are killed in vehicular accidents with moose than killed by any other species combined.

Polar bears, brown (grizzly) bears, black bears are all pretty dangerous but it's very uncommon to come across a polar bear or grizzly and the black bears would more sooner run away than fight.

More people probably get injured or die from bee or wasp stings than these creatures.

There are quite a few animals like Elk or Mountain sheep that would take a chunk out of you during rutting season but the incidents of this happening are rare.

There is only one poisonous snake in Canada; the Massassauga Rattler and  today all that remain are four isolated populations:

The Ojibway Nature Reserve in the city of Windsor, The Wainfleet Marsh, in the Niagara Region, The Bruce Peninsula, And the eastern shores of Georgian Bay.

    The cougar.

Very rare to encounter it as well, let alone get attacked.

I think that the most dangerous animal that you are likely to  encounter in Canada is probably a pit bull or similar breed. You hear about these kinds of attacks on a weekly basis.

  4. I live in alberta, I have seen all of these species that are the most dangerous animals in Canada; h**l the most dangerous was only around 30 ft from me at cameron bay, waterton lakes national park. It came outta the water and was so close to me, we backed off a bit and it left us alone. Usually animals on attack when provoked, ive seen a grizzly withing 10 feet at Moraine Lake, Banff National Park.

    1. Moose

    2. Elk

    3. Pitbull

    4.Cougar

    5. Rottweiler

  5. I am not sure about the last nine but the most dangerous is HUMAN.

  6. Sun King is correct.

In terms of the animals that actually cause the most human deaths and injuries in Canada every year, the number one most dangerous animal is the dog.

This is not to say that every dog is dangerous, but humans have so many more contacts with dogs every day than most other animals that even if only 1 out of every million dog encounters results in injury, it's still a higher number than any cougar or bear encounters.  Most dog related injuries, and almost all fatalities occur to children under twelve.

In Canada, the next highest is actually the white-tailed deer - almost entirely due to vehicle accidents.

Then it is cattle.  Again, this is due to exposure numbers.

Then it's moose.  A higher proportion of vehicle accidents involving moose result in fatalities than deer incidents.  This is because moose are both larger, and have much longer legs than deer - so vehicle incidents involving them have a higher likelihood of the moose going through the windshield.

Next is horses.  Many of these incidents involve riding accidents.

Since 2001 and the arrival of West Nile virus in Canada, mosquitoes have been fairly high on the list.  There are several hundred cases of West Nile fever across Canada every year now.

Wasp and bee stings account for quite a few injuries as well, but few fatalities - usually somewhat fewer than lightning strikes.

Critters normally considered 'dangerous' animals, like cougars, bears, and wolves are very, very low on the list.  Animals like forest tent caterpillars usually cause more injury than they do (there was a multiple vehicle accident last year near Ft McMurray caused by vehicles sliding on a slick of squished caterpillars where they were crossing a road).
