  1. I can't believe anyone would put Cuetec in their top 100 cuemakers, let alone top 10. They are very poor quality, and 99% of serious players wouldn't touch any cue with a non-wood shaft

Anyway, I'll just reiterate that custom cues are a head above any production model. Custom cuemakers spend hours and hours just sifting through piles of wood to find the perfect piece, and have such exacting standards that they will literally throw out a $2,000 cue if it does not have the hit that they demand when it's completed.

To pick just 10 custom cuemakers that were the 'best' would not be fair. There are probably hundreds of them making top quality cues, and there could be a guy in your town making cues for $400 that are the same quality as a more famous cuemaker selling his cues for no less that $2,000.

  2. Well this is pretty broad and highly biased. Every person is different. It's like asking which car is the best. Well what are you going to use it for? Do you want it to be functional or look good? Cues are made for a multitude of uses. There are break cues, jump cues, billiard cues, snooker cues, etc. If you are talking about pocket billiards then you can look at price first. As with most things you get what you pay for but that does not translate into better. A great playing cue can be defined as a cue with a good balance, tight fitting joint, and a good shaft. I have found 20 dollar cues that hit better than 10000 dollar custom cues so nothing is exact in this game. If I was going to subjectively rate them it would go as follows...

    1. custom cues-handmade one at a time

    2. predator

    3. joss

    4. cue-tech

    5. schon(unless its the unique or original and then possibly #2)

    6. mcdermott

    7. lucasi

    8. viking

    9. adams

    10.action

You also have to keep in mind that some of these companies are owned by competition cue sports and are all made in japan and just have different logos. I think the top 5 is pretty accurate though

  3. You're kidding right?

The best brand question is objective to the user, in other words what I like the next person may hate. Also the question of for what arises 9ball, straight, snooker, billiards...etc. I mean a vette is a nice ride but have you ever tried to pull a horse trailer with it?

The second obstacle to your question is are you talking about production cues or custom cues. I own 10k+ cues that I don't like the hit of but they are better as collectibles than and 500 dollar cue that is great to play with.

Sorry I'm no help but the question leaves too many open ends.

You may try the archives and look for question concerning personal favorite cues.

ps my only evidence to support is a collection of over 200 cues (125+ truly collectibles) and 30 yrs of experience

  4. If you want an answer I will give you one

If you want an argument Ill give you my X wifes # unless you already have it

  5. common cues are really made of woods. the reason for changes in material use is to make the cue perform better and make the cue life longer.

Cuetec and Predator is one of them.  Cuetec is the first brand to produced warp resistant cue ( with shaft made of wood covered with fiberglass) making it straighter than wood shaft. Predator on the other hand produced the first Scientifically Engineered cue ( with shaft made of 10 pieces wood ) allowing the shaft to reduce deflection.

Other brands is just have more expensive material like Joint made of bone,  Titanium, or wood.

Please note that straight shooting doesn't require you to use the most expensive,  highest quality material or the best performing cue. Your compensation can make you a world beater even if you use the house cue.

  6. Johnny dont argue !! Yeah right

    Cues -

True custom made for you and a jump stick there is no other way to go

  7. d**n, Kevin!  Over 200 cues?!  That's got to be a h**l of a display case.  Do you keep most of them in storage and just display a few at a time, or are all of you walls lined with cues?  Anyway, back to the question, you've already gotten the best answers you're likely to get from Kevin and Johnny.  It's all about the eye of the beholder, or in my case, the beer-holder.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
