Would like to spend a week in Paris and do or see at least one thing a day - anyone have any recommendations that may or may not be off the beaten path?

  1. eiffel tower

palace of versace... is a must see

Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysées

    notre dame cathedral

    moulin rouge

been to all them all were worth it

  2. My top 'must sees' are the Eiffel Tower; the Louvre; Notre Dame; wandering the streets of the Marais district; Place de la Concorde area.

There are so many things to see and do in Paris, that's it's impossible to list them all, apart from the obvious ones above.  Suggest you get a guidebook and work out what things really interest you.  What interests me might bore you silly.

But anyway, here are a few different things:

    Take the metro out to La Defense, a new business suburb which has some really alternative architecture;

Visit a couple of parks tourists often miss:

    Parc des Buttes Chaumont; and

    Le Parc de Belleville.

Take a cruise on the Canal St Martin (to or from the Bassin de la Villette), or just walk around the Canal area.

    Tour the Catacombs.

Visit either Pere Lachaise or Montparnasse Cemetaries.

Go up the Tour Montparnasse.  Good views from a different angle to the Eiffel Tower.

In addition to Notre Dame, visit St Sulpice and/or St Germain de Pres.

  3. Stewartr hs 4 out of 5 right.  I'd take out Moulin Rouge and put in the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur and Montmartre.  (unless your tastes run toward overrated, overpriced night clubs, in which case Moulin Rouge may be right up your alley.)

You can of course, catch the little tourist train across the street from Moulin Rouge and take it to Sacré-Cœur; when you return, you can take in the show at Moulin Rouge or Crazy Horse right down the street.

  4. The others have given you the usual attractions, and I agree with them.  You probably easily have time for ten attractions in a week.

Start at any of the big attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower or Arche de Triomphe and buy the book All Paris.  It lists all the attractions and is easily readable.

Here is a link to the art galleries.  The Musee d'Orsay is fabulous.  It is a renovated train station with a big collection of many kinds of art.  It is my favourite.

Don't overlook the catacombes.  Very interesting, no flash photography allowed (consecrated place.....the underground ossuary, a former limestone quarry where the bones from many former graveyards were removed to).  Will give you a link for them also.  Get there early (8:30 am).

Check out the big department stores (Galleries Lafayette, Le Printemps).  The Opera is very close by.

And did you know Paris has a Statue of Liberty too? See link.

    Have fun!

  5. paris is dirty....go see the eiffel tower and then head to switzerland

  6. The Louvre

    The Eiffel Tower

    Montmartre

    Notre Dame Cathedral

Pere Lachaise Cemetery (I'm serious.  There are some very famous people buried there)
