Giant is the largest bicycle company in the world. They do the actual manufacturing and assembly for many other brand names. They also make the frames and the company with their name painted on the bike just does painting and assembly. Depends on what you're looking for.  

There are some brands that have a lot of different models in their catalog, and participate in almost all types of bicycling, like road, mountain, bmx, hybrid, etc., and some specialize in one type, or even one discipline.  

Also, some brands are pretty small but offer better bikes and customer service than larger brands, but also charge for more money.  It's sometimes you get what you pay for.

Maybe some of the largest brands are Giant, Specialized, Trek, Merida.

Mountain: Titus, Turner, Ventanna, Ellsworth

As far as size:

Trek takes 30% of the US market.

Followed by Specialized and Cannondale who each pull about 12% of the US market.
