  1. If you are looking for TOP GRADE swords...

you will not find them on ebay!

  2. high carbon steel.

    and http://www.handmadesword.com

you may try here for a real functional top grade sword.

    Good luck!

  3. Buy from eBay - at your peril!

As Peter Gunn already stated, you basically get what you pay for.

Katana raw material is named Tamahagane.  This  is a type of Japanese steel. Translated as "jewel steel". It is mainly used to make katana, and some tools. Native supplies of the base iron ore are low, therefore they only smelt it for Japanese sword-smiths.

Modern steel of high quality does not need to be folded to make a stronger blade as much of the impurities have been expunged during the smelting process. However, a modern smith might still fold the steel to adhere to tradition and to produce a grain-like effect in the finished, polished sword.

Thus, obtaining a 'real' Japanese katana is a pricey, difficult business.

  4. Wel I saw this show and it was pretty cool, I don't know if you can order it but here it is.

Oh ,and I hear Gassan Sadatoshi makes some of the best swords in the world.

  5. Hi there

For the average practitioner the strongest blades are made up of 9260 spring steel.

Check out the destructive blade tests on youtube

Also check out sword-buyers-guide.com. They break down all the suppliers in terms of cost and quality.

As for ebay. Only buy from there if you know what youre looking for. Antiques can be found but its mostly cheap junk.

Heres the typical sort of c**p they sell for $30.

This clip is legend and is what is now termed the wall hanger because thats all its fit for!

  6. I would not recommend e bay as a source for swords, with the exception that they are made by a know swordsmith or forge, e.g. Paul Chen, even then I would advise caution. Personally - I would never buy a sword that I had not handled.

Modern made swords are made of high carbon steel, typically 1060 or better. There are some made of sophisticated alloys such as L6, Bainite. These tend to be a little pricey, but cheap compared to real Japanese made swords. Most of the swords on e bay are wall hangers and as such are not really swords, but are more commonly referred to as "sword like objects."

The best value swords available are probably those sold by cheness, however their koshirae are a little sub-standard - a customized version by roninswords.com is a little more expensive but worth the extra to get the nicer koshirae and tsukamaki.

  7. I was just going to tell you to stay away from this guy "hesamurai" but the doofus already posted. He sells his c**p swords on ebay and deceives people into thinking they are quality when they are pure junk.

He also acts like he is just a normal yahoo answers member suggesting a website, but he works for the company that makes that junk.

Stay away from swords on ebay. Even more so if ANY of them come from China. The prices look good, but they scam you on high shipping prices and you end up with pure trash.

Go to http://www.bugei.com to see some decent looking japanese swords.

  8. you whont be able to buy one on ebay or any were you have to mack them

  9. usually the swords you'll find on line are made from either 1060 or 1095 carbon steel.

they range anything from 200 $ to 3000$ for the realy special ones.

the golden rule is usually you get what you give. the quality of the sword goes up with the price.

if it's a traditional sword than you will usually encounter the term Tamahagane.  this is steel made from Japanese iron sand.  But the chances of getting your hands at a traditional blade are slim.

  10. Industrial grade L-6 steel, the kind of steel they use to cut concrete with.  L-6 steel, purified in the traditional Japanese manner, and then mixed in with titanium, and then folded several times, roughly 20, would make for an ultra strong Katana.

Likely though it would cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of 10k or more, and second, why on earth would you want to make such a monster sword?  A sword made from high grade L-6 steel mixed with titanium would never go dull, or rust.  Ever.  It would go through handle after handle, year after year, and it could even last centuries.

The only reason I can think of to make such a sword was if zombies were real in fact, I hope dead rising 2 has an unlockable bonus of being able to get a machete or katana made of L-6 steel or something.

Sawed off shotgun, L-6 steel machete; the perfect zombie outbreak survival kit.

I don't have to wait long though; in RE5, the character Chris Redfield is smart enough to carry a machete instead of a flimsy survival knife.

I'm sorry but, in swarms of zombies or infected people; give me a machete over a katana or knife any day of the week.

  11. it depends on the sword

go here it tells you a bit about it
