  1. Catholics

  2. The majority of the population is Roman Catholic (about 75-80%) the rest is divided into different types of Christianity (protestants, evangelicals, baptist) there are small communities of jews, budhist, muslims, etc. Though the Evangelicals are spreading rapidly.

Most Andean Communities, besides being Catholic, preserve their spiritual traditions dating back from pre-colonial times, they usually have festivities mixing their ancient traditions with Catholic processions.

  3. The great majority (81%) of people in Peru are Roman Catholic.

Among the major religious communities are Roman Catholics, various Protestant denominations (including Baptist, Anglican, Assembly of God, and others), Seventh-day Adventist, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), Jehovah's Witnesses, Judaism, the Baha'i Faith, Hare Krishnas, and Islam. There also are indigenous communities practicing various forms of pre-Columbian and syncretistic (blending Christian and pre-Columbian) beliefs, as well as a unique and well-organized local religious group, the Israelites of the New Universal Pact, which is unrelated to Israel or Judaism.

  4. Peru is a vast country. Just in Lima there are several religions being practised.

I will tell you from experience, not from internet or wikipedia!

In Lima the vast majority are catholics although in the last census, 60% of Lima's population was evangelical, a religion which is rapidly increasing.

There is a very big muslim community, especially in the south of Peru with beautiful mosques. In Lima there are also synagogues and a big jewish community.

So, catholic first, then evangelical, then muslim and then jewish. Those are the 4 main religions. Of course you get some baptists but they are not a very bog group.

By the way, there is quite a big Christian Science church in Lima too!

  5. just 1 principal,   CATHOLIC :)

  6. Catholic and Christian

  7. The religion of Peru is an inheritance of the Spanish conquest, for this reason, it is a mainly Catholic country (more than 75% of the population). Since the 16th century, along with Catholicism, expressions of the native religion, based on the cult of the Sun, the Pachamama (Mother Earth) and elements of nature, have also been present. Those who study religion, still can’t agree how to treat two very different religions in a process of fusion or of parallel beliefs. Moreover, recently many diverse churches have appeared, and we can see that the Peruvian population is still very religious and that the percentage of atheists and declared agnostics is very low.

For example, Peru has Protestant churches that are the fruit of the work of North American and European missionaries. We also have Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Adventists, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, and Hare Krishnas.
