I know that there are an endless amount of bars, gels, and drinks for runners- but what about foods you eat for nutrition sake. Recently I discovered that bananas are a great runners food- but what else? I know that you all probably have some really neat recipes and foods that YOU eat to feel great on your next run? Will you share them with me? (I hope peanut butter is one of them- I LOVE peanut butter)

  1. anything healthy, anything with low salts and unnatural sugars, etc.

  2. Bananas are good before or after races.  The potassium lets you breathe easier and gives you energy.

  3. well ya bananas are great for everything...on the other hand you can eat anything just minimize your portions...Work out sometimes and that will help you tone yourself. But as long as you stay physically fit and eat healthy you should be GREAT.And also DO NOT trust all shakes and bars. some will destroy your body more than it tries to replenish it.

        GOOD LUCK!!

  4. you are in luck. peanut butter! without fail, i eat a banana with peanut butter before every short run i do (usually 4 to 9 miles). that way i get the potassium (which helps prevent cramping and also fuels you) from the bananas and quick protein from the peanut butter.

one of the best pre run foods (especially for long runs -- 10 miles +) is oatmeal. it really keeps you strong through the whole run. i like to add walnuts, dried cranberries, anything to my oatmeal. and i make it with milk.

i used to hate oatmeal, but i started eating it knowing it would improve my stamina, and now i love it.

  5. anything with lots of complex carbs for energy, like breads and pastas, and to be extra healthy try whole grains. You should also try and get vegetables in for vitamins and minerals. For running protein is essential for muscle growth so try things with lots of it (like peanut butter!) you can put PB on apples or celery to add flavor and protein, and if eaten in moderation is totally healthy. You might notice that it's high in fat, but certain amounts of fat is healthy and necessary

  6. Before I do my morning runs, I always have a big spoonful of peanut butter and a banana.  And also coffee mixed with hot chocolate, like an hour and a half before the run.

I also like soy milk, which seems less likely to make you nauseous than dairy, and honey nut cheerios.  My favorite running breakfast would have to be a cinnamon raisin bagel, with peanut butter and a banana sliced on top. Yummmmmmm.

  7. I don't know anything with pb but ummm it is said that u r supposed to eat spaghetti..or any kind of pasta....b 4 u run becuz ......ummm i forget y but yes.....and if u drink chocolate milk after u run or exersize then it will help build your muscles!

    I'm sorry i don't know too many but i gave u what i know!

  8. i like raisins right before. they give you tons of energy. I like protein shakes right after. My fav: 2 scoops chocolate protein powder (or vanilla protein powder + 1 tbsp cocoa powder)

1 tbsp natural peanut butter (smooth or chunky)

8 oz. water (or low-fat milk)

    3-5 ice cubes

I am a huge PB lover as well so sometimes i put a little extra in there and its awesome! And it keeps you full for a long time. I'm sure banana would be good in there too.

Almonds are also very good for runners!
