Hi,

In my opinion there's no such a thing as a best brand or brands. There's only one thing you have you look for in any kind of tv even the high end ones. It is called signal sensitivity. If you have 5 tv's of different brands side by side in a room with a very very bad reception antena signal or even cable. You have to pick a channels that shows some snow on the tv screen. Now you have to hook up the cable or antena to each tv one by one at a time and see which tvs shows a worst picture than the other tvs when fed in poor signal. So the tv that show a good picture under poor reception or signal strength is the best tv. The tv that shows snow when you feed in less sensitive signal (less strengh) is not good. So imagine how HDTV signal will look on a tv that is capable of producing a good clear picture under worst conditions. I hope you understand my concept above.

This is what I did when I went to the store to buy a big screen tv. I asked them to hook up cable then I picked a weak signal channel and compared each brand that was available by tuning into that weak channel. So I bough the cheapest one which showed a good picture, that was the RCA. The other ones were Sony, Hitachi, and Samsung. I went for the RCA because I was able to afford it. Most importantly it was also able to perform best under worst signal strengh conditions.

Look for independent evaluations, not individually opinions - they are usually meaningless. Top ten in what? Reliability? Picture? Sound? Features? And in plasma or LCD? Or CRT or projection?

Go to your public library and read the 3/08 HDTV article in Consumer Reports and your questionS will be answered.

General Rule, for performance and reliability:

Plasma - Panasonic Viera; and Pioneer Elite or Kuro.

LCD - Sony; Toshiba; Sharp; Samsung; LG.

Don't EVER buy Vizio or any other no-name, third tier, junk TV!
