  1. This is an incredibly difficult question - there are more than three must-sees in Berlin. But I'd list these:

The Brandenburg Gate and Parisier Platz - this is the symbol of Berlin and contains so much history.  It's also beautiful.  Make sure you visit the room of silence.

Alexanderplatz and the Fernsehturm.  This was the center of East Germany, and historically a center of commerce from Medieval times.  Include in your visit Marx-Engels Forum and Mariankirche, the oldest extant church in Berlin.

The third one is the hardest, and I can think of about 5 things that belong in that list, but I'll say the area near Bahnhof Zoo and Kurfurtstendamm, particularly the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedaechntniskirche - kept as a reminder of the destruction of Berlin at the end of World War II, it shows both the grandeur of the old church and the destruction, and is a cry for peace.  Nearby, Kurfurstendamm, and Kaufhaus des Westens (KDW) or Europacenter can be a part of this visit.

  2. I agree with the person before me. As a Berliner myself, it's very difficult indeed to list just three places, especially since everyone has different priorities and likes and dislikes. From a tourist point of view, I would include 1) Checkpoint Charlie, the former borderline between the American and the Russian sector. There's also a museum there depicting the history of the checkpoint and tragic stories of those who tried to flee. History is definitely alive there and it's worthwhile visiting!

    2) While you're in the area, pay a visit to the Holocaust Memorial (close to Brandenburg Gate and just around the corner). It's a powerful site with an intriguing labyrinth of pillars of different heights. Not to be missed!

    3) As for nightlife, I would choose Oranienburger Strasse. It's a very vibrant, colourful and interesting street in the heart of Berlin (district Mitte) with tons of quirky pubs, restaurants, bars and cafés. At night, the hookers roam the street, which is an extra point of interest (it's just kind of amusing to have those "red light charms" in the middle of a touristy drinking and eating area..)! There's also the Tacheles there, a former squat house turned into an art gallery and event place.

  3. I think that would really depend on what your personal interests are to be honest.

Many may say other places, it really depends on what it is you are there for. That would help more.

Sure what was mentioned is fine but it may not be for you too.

  4. Well, Berlin is a city which has been at the center of

historical happenings in the past century so this is

a very hard question to answer. I could suggest places

like the Brandenburger Tor or the Reichstag but I don't

know what you're interested in. If you're obsessed with

classical music you could go see some opera but if

you're obsessed with sports then you should probably

go see the Olympic Stadium. This probably sounds pretty

silly but suggesting three places in Berlin that are worth

visiting is pretty hard, there's really nice spots round here!
