I am planning to visit Belfast for a couple of days: what ideas could people provide me when I arrive at the area? This would include museums, galleries, attractions and so on, especially those which are near the city.

  1. take a citysightseeing open top bus tour from Castle Junction.

Stormont; Belfast Castle; Belfast Zoo; Shankill and Falls Road's; Botanic Gardens; Malone House/Barnett's Demense; Queen's University; St Anne's Cathedral.

    Visit http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk for more info

  2. Everyone has some really great suggestiona, but I would def. recommend you do a tour that includes Murals, it'll give you an insight in to the history and current state of the troubles in Belfast, its really interesting and sometimes fraustrating for a visitor as it's hard to understand the mentality, but def. worth going to see!

  3. ULSTER FOLK & TRANSPORT MUSEUM sounds rubbish but when you get there its brilliant

THE BELFAST WHEEL not as good as the London Eye it is still good

    GRAND OPERA HOUSE

    THE BELFAST TOUR BUS

  4. I would also suggest a trip to Carrickfergus Castle for a historical point of view, it is around 20 mins drive from Belfast along the M2.

  5. there are rag trees, money trees and holy wells which all look very cool. also these random walls that seem to cut across nothing. google it. forrrr itttt issss beeeeuaatifull. sorri...roger whittaker moment.

anyway, thats a site full of odd and unusual things to do which i found interesting. personally i think seeing a bunch of museums is highly boring. but thats my contribution anyway! enjoy

  6. They have an open top bus tour which shows you round the whole city and gives you lots of ideas of what to see - we thought it was very good. You can buy a ticket that lasts 24 hours, so what we did was buy one at about 3pm on the first day, and use it to do the whole circuit that afternoon and get a look at the city. Then you can still use it up till 3pm the next day to hop-on-hop-off at all the interesting sites. Belfast is great! Have fun! Hx

  7. Go into the Belfast Welcome Centre on the left hand side of Donegal Place just facing the front of the City Hall, there are lots of tours and such like, the city tour bus leaves from Castle Junction and if you get lost just ask anyone and they will be glad to help. There is also a tour of the City Hall which is free but it is only at certain times. Enjoy your stay if you need more info or help just email me and I will be glad to give you more advice and tips what to see and do. Enjoy your trip.

  8. Black taxi tours will take you to both sides of the community and tell you a little about the troubles. These are proper home grown tours and will give you a real feel for the people and the areas most affected by the troubles, whilst maintaing energy, humour, spirit and optimism.

    Ulster folk museum

    St Annes Cathedral

Botanic Gardens up beside Queens University and the Ulster Museum. If you hire a car you can take a drive along the coast road and go the the Giants Causeway and walk along the rope bridge, think there may even be a day trip to it that you can book.

The city hall has a belfast eye now so you could take ride on that, there is a nice bar to the right hand side of the city hall called the apartment and you can look out on to the centre whilst having a drink and the food is nice

Visit the Crown bar, one of the oldest bars in belfast.

St Georges Market it also on the outskirts of the centre, again a good opportunity to get chatting the the locals, who are the heart of belfast.

    enjoy

  9. the zoo is always fun but be prepaired for a lot of up hill walking.

  10. I would reccommend to do the Belfast City sightseeing bus tours first and it will give you a general overview of the whole city so you can see what attractions you would be interested in visiting. It costs about £12 and once you buy the ticket you can use it all day!

My top ten attractions in the city are:

    1. City Hall (you cant go inside city hall at the minute which is a shame because its getting refurbished)

    2. Queens Uni

    3. Saint Annes Cathedral

    4. Botanic Gardens

    5. Stormont

    6. Belfast Castle

    7. Belfast Zoo

    8. The Odyssey

    9. The shops

    10.The murals

Good galleries in the city include Belfast Exposed (a photography gallery) and Ormeau Baths (an art gallery)

Unfortunately the Ulster Museum is being refurished but the Ulster Folk and Transport museum www.uftm.org.uk is very good and is approximately a 30 min train ride from Belfast City Centre.

You could has take a tour up to the giants causeway www.causewaycoastandglens.com with one of the bus tour companies ie www.minicoachni.co.uk.
