What are the towels the olympic divers use when they get out of the pool?

Im almost positive they arent just plain towels

It is a plastic product and available from car parts stores used to clean and dry vehicles.  I have many of them they work almost as well as chamois, made from deer skin.  PVA is the material and one common one is called the "Absorber", come in some great colors too!

They are called Chamois. Its like the similar to what you use when you dry your car. It has this rubbery, soft, feathery texture. It is best for drying. Unlike ordinary towels, chamois would sip any moist part of your skin for you to be completely dry.

i used to dive competitively, and i would not have been able to live without my shammy. they are a special towel that has to be wet to absorb water (when they are completely dry they feel like cardboard). basically they just help to get rid of any excess water on your body. in diving, you do your dive and then get out of the water and have to wait a few minutes before you can get back into the water, and as you wait any excess water on your skin can make you very cold which can cause your muscles to tighten up. shammies also help to dry off your hands/legs so that you have a better grip on your tuck/pike

BEIJING - Why do Olympic divers get wet and then mop themselves with a little towel before stepping onto the boards in Beijing?

The reason for the dunk and dry is to be able to hold onto the skin of their legs while spinning at high speeds in the air, according to Canadian diver Alexandre Despatie.

If his legs are too wet, his hands slip off his legs, but it's also hard to get a grip if they're too dry, he says. The goal is to be at just the right state of dampness.

The divers tote their shammies with them up onto the board for a last-minute wipe down.

They then toss it onto the pool deck to retrieve after their dive, but they take a look first so they don't drop it on a fellow diver's head.
