  1. If you can get through D.C. early in the morning, the only other place you may see backup is in the Richmond area. After that it should be smooth sailing.

  2. Hot spots are Del. Mem. bridge, Baltimore Harbor tunnel and DC Capital Beltway and HOV.  Both south & north bound traffic gets crazy on weekend, Friday and Sunday.

DC traffic picks up around 3:00.  HOV-3 is open southbound for public until 3:30, if you can hit the HOV before 3:00 you would be out of trouble all the way, unless there is an accident.

  3. 3:00pm going south it starts to build up but then again if there is a accident anytime. I travel that highway from Nc to Nj and back at least once a month. I try to travel on Sunday-less traffic-leaving around 5:30 am.

  4. If you are driving a car and not a truck I always had good luck taking the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. It turns off shortly after you come through the harbor tunnel and I believe it is MD295 which becomes I-295 and comes back into I-495 south of DC before you get to the I-95 junction.

  5. I am an over the road truck driver. best thing to do is hit it late at night, like 1200-100 am. that's what I do
