There are no trains going directly to khatmandu or to any part of nepal from india.

From chennai you can go to gorakhpur and then change for bus to the border. From there take another bus to your destination.

Or from chennai go to delhi. Take a bus to nepal border and then change to nepalese bus.

you do not have any direct train to nepal from chennai my dear . you have 3 option if you want to go to nepal

There are three major open points between India and Nepal namely Sunauli/Bhairawa, Raxaul/Birganj, and Kakarbhitta.

and the nearest of the above is the first one from chennai.

you can take the train to gorkhpur from chennai 2512/2522 exp dep from chennai at 23.15  and reaching gorkhpur 15.20 third  day and the train runs on tuesday , wednesday ,friday and sunday only in the week from chennai. the distance is 2343 k.m .the fare is 549 for sleeper and 1489  for 3 a/c .

now you have to catch bus to sunauli which is 2 hours journey from gorakpur and croos the border here and which is hardly 500 meter from here and you have lot of bus to kathmandu which is 8 to 9 hours journey from here.

By train you can travel upto Raxaul bordering Nepal. Then take a Nepal bus.
