I know that primers determine the start of site DNA sequence. What other functions do primer have?

  1. string of nucleotides, called a  primer , attaches to the beginning of the template strand by base pairing. we need one pair of primers, one for the 3' end and 5' end. this precisely defines the area to be replicated


  2. Primers are also necessary for DNA Polymerase to build on.  DNA Polymerase cannot add nucleotides unless there are already some there to add on to.
