  1. anaerobic - doesn't require oxygen. the molecules are still able to produce energy, even without oxygen. they do this through ethanol fermentation. 2 atp are produced for everyone one glucose molecule used.

    aerobic - requires oxygen to generate energy. this process makes 38 atp for every one glucose molecule that is used.
