  1. Having lived in the Rockie Mountains and taught skiing there, I can tell you that most people wear jeans. Sweat pants and fleece pants are two options for cold weather wear. I sell waterproof ski pants, but people wear those only on the slopes.

  2. corduroy, ribbed and rugged. However look and find a newer material used for socks that repel water, they may make other garments as well.

  3. Nylon with a fleece backing is a good, rather inexpensive material.

Anything somewhat waterproof and a little warmer should do well.

The one thing you want to do in the cold is stay dry, that is key.

  4. Take 2 pair of every day pants with you, wear one pair as you walk and play in the snow. When you are done, change to the dry pair for the lounge and the trip home.  Also take a towel to dry your feet and legs.  You may be cold and wet for a while, but this is spring and the season is ending. You don't mention what you are doing but skiing or snowboarding will need some water resistant over pants, Try a Goodwill store they may have some.  Also take a spare pair of socks to change into.  Good luck and enjoy the snow.
