  1. Most are diamond, many are diamond alternatives (i.e., Moissonite), and many are alternative stones (sapphires, rubies, canary diamonds, etc).  Many are solitaires (one stone), some are eternity rings (three stones), and many are very intricate designs.  Some have big stones, some have small.  Some have gold bands, some white gold bands, and some platinum bands.  Some are eco-friendly (i.e., greenkarat.com) but most are not.  Some are bought online, others in jewelry stores, others in antique stores, and some are passed on from family members.  Some have very high quality stones and some are lower quality.

  2. As many as there are stars in the sky...

  3. the best thing with our generation is that there is no set type of engagement ring, it can be whatever you want it to be, from silver to gold to white gold..to stones or no stones.

You can get the ring made to exactly what you want..the choice is all yours.

  4. Vintage engagement rings have a lot to offer if you want a ring that is both beautiful and meaningful. Often these rings are passed down from generation to generation. However if that's not the case in your family but you still want a vintage ring for your significant other there are plenty of places to look. Estate sales are certainly one way to find all kinds of vintage and antique jewelry including engagement rings.

Although the diamond engagement ring didn't become popular until the late 19th century, there are still plenty of antique diamond engagement rings on the market these days. The practice of giving a diamond ring as a symbol of betrothal didn't truly catch fire until the DeBeers company launched a major marketing campaign in the middle of the 20th century. After that, this type of ring was standard for engaged couples.

There's no denying the elegant beauty of Edwardian style engagement rings. The Edwardian time period spanned from 1901 to 1910 during the reign of King Edward. Although this time period was rather brief, the impact it had on jewelry was major. The engagement rings of this era are some of the most beautiful found anywhere. These rings can be purchased from specialty jewelers and antique stores, often for a pretty penny. It is not uncommon for one of these rings to cost several thousand dollars.
