there is closed adoption..thats what my sister was

thats where all records are sealed and closed tight and nothing is known about the birth parents

open adoption is where information about the parents is open and a little contact can be made.

There are all kinds of ways- open and closed, domestic and international, waiting child adoption... this site will explain it better than I can.

There is open adoption, closed adoption, kinship adoption (by a family member), step-parent adoption, international adoption, domestic adoption (within the US).  They also refer to adoptions as "infant" adoption or "child adoption" depending on the age.  There is also a foster/adopt program through the foster care program.  There is also "special needs" adoption (for children with medical conditions).
