  1. I tried the freeze dried types available at health food and grocery stores and they did nothing for me, may as well have been sawdust as far as the effect is concerned. The encapsulated probiotics which are in the capsule with the culturing medium have worked well for me, I really notice a difference. I tried Dr. Ohirra's 12 probiotics which worked-  and now take LB17 which is has 17 strains of bacteria. I think the more strains of bacteria the better, and the more alive they are the better.

  2. personally have tried so many now it's ridiculous! In my opinion the ones that work best tend to either be the whole food tablets such as Garden of Life, or Enzymatic Therapy Acidophilus Pearls.

The issue with probiotics is that they are live bacteria and your stomach acid is made to destroy bacteria good or bad. Although some strains can make it through stomach acid better than others, most can't. If you can't find the products I'm listing then make sure it atleast has an enteric coating. These brands are quite popular though so it shouldn't be hard at all.

So in the case of Garden of Lifes whole food tablets, because they're whole food your body for one can break it down and absorb it a bit easier. They tend to be a little more active than other brands due to the fact that they are mixed with prebiotics which are the food that the probiotics feed off of. This is akin of soil to a plant.

Enzymatic Therapy Acidophilus Pearls are excellent. I'm personally going back on them after having tried about 8 different brands in the past year (I work in a health food store so I sample everything lol). They have a dual coating. The first coating is an enteric coating that allows the bacteria to bypass your stomach acid and actually reach the intestine where they can be used. Next is the oxygen encapsulation, which prevents oxidation of the bacteria so they can survive even better.

  3. Hands down,

    Optiflora from Shaklee.

It is not nearly as expensive as the one I was using while on antibiotic therapy and wish I had found it sooner!

However it is all a matter of opinion and choice and everyone has their own, correct?
