  1. On a TX highway a cop pulled me over for "impeding traffic." It was one lane each way with a shoulder as wide as the lane. I was doing 55mph and the speed limit was 70. He said I should drive on the shoulder and let people pass. This is legal in TX although probably not in other states. I had just passed a truck driving solely on the shoulder and the cop passed him too.

He gave me a written warning and it doesn't go on my record at all. He asked if the car doesn't go very fast and I said I was just trying to save gas which what I always want to do.

  2. I believe most places it'll be a "moving violation" and a point on your record, same as doing something unsafe.

Of course, too slow is unsafe, as drivers come up on you unawares.  That's why freeways have a minimum speed limit.  If you can't do it, take surface roads.

If you're on a 2-lane road, it's only honorable to HELP people pass you.  If the road is busy or a solid yellow line, pull over often to let people pass.  There are laws that require this.

Obviously, if you're a slower driver, "drive right pass left" applies to you especially!

If what you're doing is basically reasonable and safe and not glaringly illegal, and you're giving every courtesy to other drivers, the chance of you getting a ticket is remote.

  3. Under California law, the minimum speed on a freeway is 45 mph.  If you are going slower than that and blocking traffic, you can get a ticket.  But I've never heard of anyone getting such a ticket.  I have a feeling that CHP doesn't really care.

On the surface streets, there are no minimum speeds.  You can ride a bike or horse-drawn carriage if you want to, as long as you stay in the right lane.

  4. In CA, anything under 10 MPH under the posted/flow of traffic, is considered impeding traffic, and you can get a ticket for it. As for the actual cost of the ticket, I have no idea.

  5. in pa on a 2 lane hwy the law is the left lane is 4 passing only. if your going 75 in a 65 and cars are on your bumper your blocking traffic. some out of state drivers dont know this and get a fine ( $100) or cause road rage witch happens alot when our noom is 80 n a 65 and you get behind someone that thinks there doing society a favor by going 63 n the left lane, people should realize theres only so much people can take y put or self or other  familys n danger by blocking drivers
