there are many ways to prevent the global warming, first easy to make is do not burn the plastics because it will be damage our ozone layer and stores greenhouse effect. another term is do not burn leaves i think that many people are burning leaves to minimize their trash or space it contains carbon dioxide and the plastic is also contained. and you should know about this the easy way to minimize your dead leaves is to put it on the under the ground or dig a hole the put it, the cover it by the sand. that's my opinion.

  1. The most effective way is to turn off the tv, which cuts off the stream of liberal propaganda that has pumped junk science into your face and brainwashed you into believing their lies. Earth warms and cools on its own all the time, as it has for hundreds of millions of years. Earth also pollutes on its own too. You recycling plastic baggies and taking the bus makes absolutely no difference to the polar bears. Now, I recycle too, but I don't think I'm saving the ice caps when I do. Here in Oregon we have a bottle bill, we don't throw away our cans and bottles, we recycle them and get some $$ back in the process. What I'm saying is, don't pollute, go ahead and recycle, but global warming is totally out of human's hands.

  2. 1 - please try to avoid confusing the hole in the ozone layer and global warming; they are not related except so far as they are both caused by human pollution

2 - Rodney has some very good points; you could start with those

3 - Joseph L is full of it; he asks "how [would Americans stopping contributing to GW] offset the amount increase caused by China, India and South America that ...are using resources and energy faster than we are?"

The big fallacy here is that they are NOT "using resources and energy faster than we are".

America emit 25X the CO2 per capita as China and 50X that of India. In other words, if Americans did stop contributing to GW, this would be the same as 50 Indias... huge!!!

No, the developing world isn't doing as much as the developed world.

The developed world has the resources (expertise & money) to afford to start doing something (someone has to go first).

Why does the developed world have this money - to a large degree because we developed on the backs of the developing (slaves, colonialisation, unbalanced trade, etc).

The developed world is also responsible for 90% of the pollution that is already there.

We in the developed world have a moral duty to:

    a) Clean up the mess we have created before asking others not to pollute

    b) Develop methods that are economically feasible for all

    c) Show the way - the US often talks the talk about being a (the) world leader and taking the moral high ground... isn't about time the US walked the walk?

  3. You could shut off your computer and stop wasting electricity on making statements instead questions like you're supposed to.

  4. Go vegan. Its THE number one way to help the environment.

  5. An all out worldwide nuclear war would bring on nuclear winter.  No global warming for many months to come.

  6. Why not tear out your lawn and plant trees instead? For the same amount of water you invest in grass, you could have fruit trees and harvest the fruit and reduce your grocery bill. The tree would also be helping to reduce the CO² levels in the atmosphere.

  7. The one single concern that is threatening the very existence of lives in this planet is global warming. Global warming can be minimized to a great extent, if we eliminate the causes which are mostly human made… Introduction To the Threaten

The one single concern that is threatening the very existence of lives in this planet is global warming. The drastic changes in the climatic conditions pose serious threat to our future generation. Owing to the results of global warming glaciers is retreating, sea levels are increasing, polar bears and other rare cold climate species are slowly becoming extinct. Navigators maintain that the Icebergs that once dominated the Atlantic and Pacific oceans have now vanished. Scientists and environmentalists conducted various studies and concluded that the past 30 years has been the warmest period in the global history. The main causes attributed towards global warming are human activities. The burning of fossil fuel is one of the major factors that contribute to global warming.

    Reasons for Global Warming

Global warming can be minimized to a great extent, if we eliminate the causes which are mostly human made. The responsibility of preventing global warming rests both on individual as well as the state. In individual level we can change our practices such as minimize the usage of fossil based fuel, reduce the electricity consumption by using energy efficient appliances. Vehicular pollution can be minimized by using the public transport system. The nucleus goal is to beget the global warming under control by restricting the carbon dioxide release and other heat ensnaring greenhouse gases into the environment. On an average nearly 10000 pounds of carbon dioxide is released per year in significant countries like Canada and US. This can be immediately curtailed by becoming energy efficient. Reducing the usage of oil, coal and gasoline are one of the effective ways of preventing global warming.

Home Appliances Contribution to Global Warming

Regrettably, it is noticed that an average home contributes to global warming more than a car. The increase of contribution is at home because the energy utilized in our homes is received from power plants that burn fossil fuel to provide power for our electric products. We can save energy by substituting compact fluorescent bulbs in the place of incandescent light bulbs. This will save your money as well as your energy bill will be minimal. The CFL bulbs last longer and the energy consumed is also less. LED bulbs are efficient and energy savers. Home appliances also contribute a lot in elevating the energy bill. The higher is the energy efficient appliance, the lesser is the cost of running the appliance. So purchasing energy efficient appliances will help in reducing the utility bill and also in protecting the environment. Similarly, purchase major appliances such as dishwasher, air conditioner or refrigerator with maximum energy efficiency. This reduces the carbon dioxide pollution.

As per the U.S. energy report, heating as well as cooling systems emit maximum carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The energy used for our homes for heating goes in vain though the prevention is inexpensive and simple. This energy that goes vain can be saved by reducing the need for air conditioners. This can help improve the environment from pollution. The largest source is transportation that adds to greenhouse gases. Vehicles are responsible and poor maintenance of vehicle contributes to pollution and global warming.

    Maintaining Vehicle Efficiency

This can be protected by increasing the overall fuel efficiency of your vehicle and paying attention to your driving style and maintenance. Buying fuel efficient hybrid cars and using bio-fuel that allows using gas electric engines and thereby cutting global warming pollution to a great extent. Driving less and making use of public transports, walking or riding a bike will save the environment from pollution. Besides this, consolidating trips and encouraging car- pooling is one of the effective ways of preventing global warming. Recycling maximum products, eating local foods and vegetarian meals, painting home in light color, purchasing energy certificates as well as carbon offsets are few of the ways of preventing our wonderful planet, the earth from the disastrous global warming.

Though, there are many ways to prevent initiating and following it with determination will yield the desired results. This is a unison effort and so all the hands have to join together with force to push the effects of global warming back beyond sight.

  8. I'm not so sure we can stop Global Warming.

If we assume that man is causing a warming in the Earth's temperature,  If all Americans stop contributing to Global Warming tomorrow, how does that offset the amount increase caused by China, India and South America that have a population more than 10 times the population of the western world and are using resources and energy faster than we are?

They don't give a rats *** about Global Warming, they have billions of mouths to feed.  They don't have any EPA standards.  They don't get their cars smog checked.  They dump oil into the pits where they c**p to minimize the smell, while they poison their own ground water.

So if you think you are making a big difference because you walk to the store and have funny light bulbs, good for you.

  9. LOL.  Yep.  The best way would be to shut down unecessary appliances like your computer.  The mind boggels at the possible combined energy savings from all the YA users.

Leaves don't matter, their carbon comes back out of the air as trees collect it to regrow next years leaves.

Plastic is from really old leaves, so burning it puts CO2 in the air that hasn't been there in a LONG time.   Doesn't affect the ozone though.

  10. Considering that Global Warming is a natural occurance there is nothing we can do to stop it. However, you should put all your leaves, left over vegetables and fruit peelings into a compost bin instead of putting in in the garbage bin and letting it go for landfill.

All plastics should go for recycling.

  11. Think its a little too late for that... we as a country has

out done our threat on planet earth...

too much of everything for the sake of just wanting it

  12. use both sides of paper to help save the trees.

    no trees?

    global warming is coming!

    HOT! HOT! HOT!

  13. Do you want more steps? I know many of them. Here are some ways to prevent GW

Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)

CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

    Install a programmable thermostat

Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill.

Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer

Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.

Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner

Cleaning a dirty air filter can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.

Choose energy efficient appliances when making new purchases

Look for the Energy Star label on new appliances to choose the most energy efficient products available.

Do not leave appliances on standby

Use the "on/off" function on the machine itself. A TV set that's switched on for 3 hours a day (the average time Europeans spend watching TV) and in standby mode during the remaining 21 hours uses about 40% of its energy in standby mode.

Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket

You’ll save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple action. You can save another 550 pounds per year by setting the thermostat no higher than 50°C.

  14. A lot of air pollutants are caused by harmful automobile exhaust pollutants.  If more people would do what they can do personally, i.e. address the exhaust issues of their own personal vehicle(s), it would be a step in the right direction.

  15. Burning leaves will release some c02, saying it is ok because the tree will replace them next year is not entirely correct. Composting is far better, some c02 is still released but much less and you can use the result back in the garden as a source of nutrients rather than just burning it.
