  1. Live by mountain side that has five or more of them. They are real interesting to watch. Head they need fifteen mile an hour wind. Some how they are set up to not go faster than 40 mile an hour wind. in this area biggest environment problem was blade killing bats coming back or going to their migration. They are big. While being built there was concern about interference they would have on radio and television reception. Don't honestly know, but since not a lot of squawk has been hear over last three years will assume they don't cause that much interference.

  2. Usually the cost of a turbine is to high for any site that is lower than a class 4.

The turbine in the lower classes would have to be bigger and taller to make the same amount of energy as a smaller turbine in a higher class area.

look at this to determine the answers to your question.

  3. The energy output from a wind turbine is determined by cubing the velocity of the wind passing through the blade area. This means that increasing wind speed by a multiple of 2 will lead to an 8 fold increase in energy output. That said, the generator usually kicks in at about 7mph and has a safety shutdown over 70mph. Consistent winds are best, and for domestic size turbines, with an average windspeed of 15mph, the economic payback is about 20 years. The life expectancy of a wind turbine is about 35 years.

  4. most current wind turbines require about an 8mph wind to start producing energy.  i did just read an article that points out most current turbines run on a/c power... that whole safer thing... but a unit could be added that would create d/c power, then an inverter used to change to a/c.  this would all turbines to create energy at any speed.   this is a basic run down... you could read for days online on different turbines.
