What are the wooden slats on a sailboat's companionway called?

What is the best kind of wood for these to be fabricated from. I have a Sanibel 17 and the companionway hatch has started to rot!

  1. I agree...so if it is an older boat and you like the authenticity use the solid wood...if you don't want to have to worry about this again...go poly.


  2. Hatch Boards - use solid teak or plastics - lexan or other polycarbonate - or Starboard or Seaboard  HDPE plastics.

  3. these are called wash boards or storm booards and are usually made from plywood.hope this helps
